Help
This help page is only available in English.
This page explains how to share animals with other members, how to transfer ownership (which removes every assigned member from that animal), and how to create and manage different types of entries for your animals: weight, events, bookings, vaccinations, documents, and diary entries. It also covers image uploads.
Where to start
Go to My pages (from the user menu). There you can add animals and open each animal’s page. On the animal page you’ll see tabs: Overview (calendar, events, diary, documents, vaccinations), Pedigree, and Information. All entries below are created from the animal’s page.
Sharing animals with other members
You can share an animal with another registered member (e.g. a family member or co-owner) so they can view and manage it—add events, weights, diary entries, vaccinations, documents, and bookings—without being the owner. The owner keeps full control: only the owner can delete the animal, change its main details, or revoke access. Subscription and limits are based on the owner’s account.
As owner – sharing an animal:
- Open the animal’s page (one of your animals).
- Click Share your animal. A modal opens.
- Enter the other member’s username (or email) and your own password to confirm, then submit. They will then see this animal under Assigned animals on their My pages.
- Under Shared with X members you can see who has access and use Remove access to revoke it at any time.
As a member who was given access – assigned animals:
- On My pages, the Assigned animals section lists animals that others have shared with you. It appears below My animals and above the calendar.
- Open an assigned animal to view and manage it: add or edit events, diary entries, weights, vaccinations, documents, and bookings. You cannot delete the animal or change who the owner is; you can only edit or delete entries that you yourself created.
Transfer ownership (Change owner)
As the owner of an animal, you can permanently transfer it to another registered user. The new user becomes the sole owner; all data (events, diary, documents, vaccinations, bookings, pedigree, weight) stays with the animal.
Assigned members: When ownership is transferred, every user who had the animal shared with them (shown under Shared with X members for you, or under Assigned animals for them) is removed in one step. They immediately lose access to the animal and it disappears from their Assigned animals list. Only the new owner can see and manage the animal unless they choose to share it again.
- Open the animal’s page (one of your animals).
- Click Change owner. A modal opens.
- Enter the new owner’s username (username only) and your own password to confirm, then submit. The system checks that a user with that username exists.
- After a successful transfer, you are redirected to My pages and the animal no longer appears in your list; the new owner will see it under their animals. The transfer is logged for traceability.
Weight
Weight entries let you track your animal’s weight over time.
- On the animal page, click the Weight button (above the tabs). You’ll go to the weight page for that animal.
- Click Add weight to open the form.
- Enter the date and time of the measurement, the weight value, and optional notes. The unit (kg or lbs) depends on your profile settings.
- Submit the form. The new entry appears in the table and on the weight chart.
You can edit or delete entries from the table. The chart can be filtered by time range (e.g. 1 week, 1 year).
Events
Events are things that happened on a specific date, such as vet visits, vaccinations, or medications.
- Open the animal’s page and stay on the Overview tab.
- In the Events section, click Add event.
- Fill in the event date, type (e.g. vet visit, vaccination), title, description, and optionally attach one image (see “Image upload” below).
- Save. The event appears in the Events table and on the calendar (as an event dot).
You can also add an event from the calendar: click a date, then choose “Add event” and the date will be pre-filled. Events can be edited or deleted from the table.
Bookings
Bookings are future appointments or planned activities (e.g. vet appointment, show).
- On the Overview tab, use the calendar: click a date, then choose Add booking (or open the day details and add a booking there).
- Enter date, time, title, location, and optional notes. You can set a reminder so the system sends an email reminder before the booking.
- Save. The booking appears on the calendar as a booking and in the day view.
Bookings can be edited or deleted from the calendar day view. Reminders are sent by email (if SMTP is configured) at the scheduled time.
Vaccinations
Vaccination records store vaccine name, date, and optional next due date.
- On the animal’s Overview tab, find the Vaccinations section.
- Click Add vaccination.
- Enter vaccine name, vaccination date, and optionally the next vaccination/expiration date.
- You can turn on Reminder and set a Reminder date (e.g. the expiration date). When you save, the system automatically creates an event on that date (e.g. “Vaccine expires”). The event appears on the calendar and in the Events list, and is included in the daily event reminder emails if those are enabled.
- Save. The vaccination appears in the Vaccinations table.
You can edit or delete vaccinations from the table. If you delete the reminder event from the Events list, the vaccination’s reminder is turned off. Use “Add vaccination” for each vaccine or booster.
Documents
Documents are files (e.g. PDF, images) attached to the animal, such as health certificates or insurance papers.
- On the Overview tab, go to the Documents section.
- Click Add document.
- Enter a title and choose a file to upload. Supported formats typically include PDF and common image types (see “Image upload” for image rules).
- Save. The document appears in the Documents table; you can open or delete it from there.
Documents are stored per animal and are only visible to you when you are logged in.
Diary entries
Diary entries are dated notes (past or future) with optional text and one image.
- On the Overview tab, find the Diary section.
- Click Add diary entry.
- Enter the date, content (required), and optionally attach one image.
- Save. The entry appears in the Diary table and on the calendar.
Diary entries can be edited or deleted from the table. Image upload for diary works like events (see below).
Image upload
Images can be uploaded in these places:
- Animal photo – when adding or editing an animal (My pages → Add animal or edit an animal). One main image per animal.
- Event image – one image per event (in the Add/Edit event form).
- Diary image – one image per diary entry (in the Add/Edit diary form).
Accepted formats: JPEG and PNG. The form usually accepts image files (e.g. image/jpeg, image/png).
Size and processing: Each image can be up to 6 MB (file size). The server may accept forms up to about 10 MB total. Uploaded images are then processed: they may be resized (e.g. max width/height 1200 px) and compressed (e.g. to around 300–400 KB) to save space and speed up loading. Very large images will be reduced automatically; you don’t need to resize them yourself, but smaller files upload faster.
Tips: Use clear, well-lit photos. For animal profile photos, a square or near-square image works best. For events and diary, one relevant photo per entry is enough.
Add to Home Screen (install as app)
You can install this site as an app on your phone or tablet. On the home page, use the button Add to Home Screen (or Lägg till på hemskärmen) next to “Register and get started now”. On some browsers you can also use the menu (e.g. ⋮ → Add to Home screen or Install app).
“Blocked” or “unsafe app” message: On some Android or Samsung versions you may see a warning that the app is blocked or unsafe. This is due to the system treating web-installed apps as unverified, not a problem with this site. You can choose Continue or Install anyway; the app works normally. Hover or long-press the Add to Home Screen button on the home page for a short explanation.
If the app still does not open after install (e.g. on Android 16 / Samsung):
- Uninstall the old app first. Go to Settings → Apps, find My Animal Journal (or Animal Journal), open it and tap Uninstall. Do not only remove the icon from the home screen; the app must be fully uninstalled.
- Open this website again in Chrome (or, if you used Chrome before, try Samsung Internet) over HTTPS.
- Use Add to Home Screen or the browser menu to install again. A new version of the app will be created.
- If one browser (Chrome or Samsung Internet) keeps blocking or failing, try the other. Ensure your browser and Android are up to date, and that “Install unknown apps” is allowed for that browser in Settings.
The installed app is a shortcut that opens the website in app mode (no browser bar). You need an internet connection to use it; your data is the same as when you use the site in the browser.
